For six years, the "Flower Center of Vladivostok" offers customers buttercups, sweet peas, eustoma, peonies. All flowers are brought from Japan. "Life around Vladivostok" learned what is the peculiarity of Japanese-style bouquets and how the love of flowers made it possible to bring such a difficult product to the market.
Work at a loss or to zero
About six years ago, on a business trip, the co-founder of the Flower Center, Nikita Gubarev, met a Japanese. The conversation went on to bring Japanese flowers for sale in Russia. Then he thought it was expensive. But, seeing the flowers themselves, fell in love with them. And then he infected his other co-founders of the company with his love. Today, Nikita knows every Japanese supplier farmer.
At first, buyers were wary of unusual colors, and for the first 4 years the company worked at a loss or to zero. Then in the "Flower Center" a lot of guests were told about how these flowers are grown, what they are better than any other buds from Holland or Australia. They explained why people should exchange their money for this particular product. Some of the flowers fell in love with customers, while others, on the contrary, were not sold at all.
NIKITA GUBAREV: Russians and Japanese have different ideas about beauty. Gloriosa, popular among the Japanese, seems strange to a seaside buyer. The sakura branches that they love there, which can bloom for a whole month, and then decorate the house in the form of a dried flower, are also not yet understood in Russia. But buyers, having once tasted Japanese flowers, come back for them again.
Japanese flowers for lovers of something special
In spring, the store sells ranunculi or buttercups, sweet pea branches, anemones and eustomas from Japan. At the beginning of summer, it is time to bring peonies. But these are not the flowers that women sell near crossings in Russia. The blooming "caps" of Japanese peonies are comparable to the head of an adult.
The cost of bouquets from Japanese flowers is slightly higher than from Dutch ones familiar to the buyer. A branch of sweet pea from Japan costs from 99 to 130 rubles, buttercups (ranunculi) cost from 200 to 770 rubles depending on the size of the flower, the price of eustoma is from 750 rubles, one peony costs from 350. Large peonies cost up to 750 rubles.
All flowers stand in a vase for about two weeks, as they come to Vladivostok from Japan within 24 hours after they have been cut. Dutch flowers often spend a week on the road. Flowers from Japan are really high quality - large, unique colors, with a pronounced aroma.
Continuous Improvement and Flower Patent
The work of Japanese florists is not only the preparation of bouquets as a gift, but also the design of hotels or events with large compositions of large flowers. Plants for these purposes, the Japanese grow on farms within the country in almost all its corners. Flowers from abroad are considered to be not of the highest quality in Japan.
The Japanese have a behavior model called kaizen. This is the practice of continuously improving production processes. There is a lot of manual labor in growing flowers. On a farm where two thousand eustom stems grow in one greenhouse, the farmer examines each of them once a week, leaves three buds that are located on the same level, and removes all other flowers with his hands. Thanks to this, the flower directs its strength into these few buds, they become large and fragrant. In Japan, growing flowers is often a family business, the secrets of which are passed down from generation to generation.
The Japanese are very scrupulous and love breeding. I know a man, a professor at a university. For 15 years he developed his own ideal variety of chrysanthemum and is now patenting this flower. This is a wonderful plant that has few analogues in the market.
Approach to work
Florists of the center receive basic education at the international floristic school "Nicole" in Moscow. To the price for a bouquet made up according to the wishes of the buyer, 20% of the cost of flowers is added. This is a service fee for the work of florists.
The store has a showcase. Her florists fill bouquets for any amount. The service fee is not taken, as the store employees make these compositions for the soul, according to their taste and mood. Guests are invited to choose a bouquet in a display case or make it with a florist.
A biologist works in the store who will tell you how to help a sick flower or how to care for a healthy one. They don’t take money for consultations.

The bouquet is created to impress. A few days after you were presented with a bouquet, cut the packaging, disassemble the flowers, remove the wilted stems.
